Robert Ward died of old age ('natural decay') in 1874. At the time of his death he was living in 4, Court X, Northgate Street, Leicester, his son Joseph's house.

This entry of death is almost certainly incorrect to identify him as a butcher. Other sources record him as a framework knitter (latterly a winder) throughout his working life.
