Mary Hunt

Mary Hunt's mother (also Mary Hunt) died a month after giving birth to her daughter. The birth was registered, just within the six weeks allowed, by her grandmother. Her father's name does not appear on the birth certificate, and later censuses indicate that the child was brought up by her grandparents, Robert and Susannah Greenwood. She retained the name Mary Hunt until she married, in 1889.

Her father is identified on her wedding certificate as 'Joseph Ward, deceased'.
