William Manger

William Manger's grandfather was Thomas Manger, a foundling, who is said to have had both his names bestowed on him by the authorities when he was found in a manger in Claybrook, Leicestershire. This may be the relevant entry, from the parish register of 1719/20 —

The entry says:   Feb 29th   Baptised a child dropt in the parish – the name – – Thomas.

However he came by his name, it seems that all the Mangers of Leicestershire derive from this man.
