George Manger

George Manger was certified to have died of a type of stomach cancer ('schirrhus pylorus').

"I have seen the disease before, but it was in men addicted to ardent spirits — decided dram drinkers... This affection of the stomach cannot be produced without a considerable predisposition of the parts to the disease."   (Dr Arnott, commenting on the autopsy on Napoleon Bonaparte, whose father died of the same thing. He concluded that the disease could also be hereditary.)
