Tom Newton Lewitt's birth certificate is an important piece of evidence in the genealogical mystery of James Newton. The address, middle name and mother's maiden name here all add weight to the identification of James Lewitt as James Newton, father of Louisa L Newton.





The birth certificate of a later child, Harry, shows that by 1883 James Lewitt had changed his name back to James Newton.
