Annie Bates

A solicitor's letter to Mary H Bates in 1952 details a bequest from the estate of Edwin J Hardy.

The records of the cemetery of St Michael and All Angels in Chemainus, British Columbia, Canada, show that an Edwin James Hardy was buried there in 1951 in plot G-2208. The next plot, G-2207, has Annie Hardy, presumably his wife, 'born 1883, buried 1950'. This cemetery is also the final resting place of one of the Bates sisters, Emma E, and her husband, William Freeman Brooke.

It therefore seems likely that Annie Bates, the oldest of the Bates sisters, who was born in September 1882, was also buried here, and that she was married to Edwin J Hardy.

Although no record of Annie's marriage has been located, it probably took place in Canada between 1914 and 1916.
