Mr and Mrs W E Thacker's daughter Mary was born in September, 1913. It may therefore be estimated that this studio photograph was taken in about 1918.

The surviving print is in the form of a postcard, the reverse of which reads:

'Dear Nell and Mag [Mrs Thacker's sisters in Canada] This is a snap we had while at Blackpool, it is rotten of Mary, believe me she is much prettier than this, don't you think I look old Enough to be Will's Mother. I knitted Mary's dress, it is pale blue and cream. Write soon and tell us all news, Love from all. Mary xxxxxx
