This cabinet print showing Mary H Manger at the age of about 18 has been copied from an original in the possession of her grand-daughter.

She has no wedding ring and is wearing a sloping bustle and fitted tunic fashionable in the late 1870s, putting the picture perhaps a year or two before her marriage to Alfred Bates at Leicester Register Office on 22 March 1880. At that ceremony the bride gave her age as 21, although she was actually only just 19.
