Hannah Ellis married John Thacker at St Helen's Church, Sharnford, on Christmas Day, 1832.

At first glance, it appears from this copy of the parish register entry that both bride and groom were able to read and write: both of them seem to have signed the register. However, when it came to her second marriage (1859), Hannah Ellis left her mark. It is reasonable to speculate that someone else who was able to write, perhaps her sister Ann, filled in Hannah's name after Hannah had left her mark, which might explain the squiggle before her name.
