Florence Susannah Jane Allen married George Angrave on 26 December 1921. This studio portrait by Francis Brayton of Leicester was probably taken earlier the same year, perhaps to mark their engagement.

The conventional arrangement of the figures conceals the fact that Florence was taller than George - she was 5'6" and he was 5'2".

By 1921 she was an accomplished, self-taught dressmaker and in all probability made the dress she is wearing here.

At the time of their marriage, Florence was 27 and George 23.
