(1799-1800   His brother, William Allen, was born in Ireland. William's first two children were named Edward and Ann, possibly after his parents.)   1841, 1851 censuses + speculation
1785-1805   Edward Allen was born, perhaps in Ireland or Leicestershire. Several Edward Allens were baptised in those locations after the turn of the century but no suitable candidates before it. But, assuming those baptisms are of infants, they would make him considerably younger than his wife (see next). E.g., 'Edward Allen of Leicester' who was buried at Cosby on 4 Jul 1830 aged 23: he would have to have married his 38 year old wife at the age of 21.   NBI; Cosby and Leicester St Margaret's parish registers; IGI
14 Mar 1828   An Edward Allen, probably this one, married Elizabeth Bowns (38) at St Margaret's, Leicester.   St Margaret's parish register
1 Aug 1828   His first child, Timothy, was christened, 4 months 18 days after the wedding. Edward's occupation was recorded as framework knitter.   St Margaret's parish register
Apr 1830   His second and last known child, Emma, was born.   St Margaret's parish register
21 Oct 1830   Emma was buried aged 6 months at St Margaret's Church, Leicester. (Perhaps making it less likely that her father was buried earlier the same year in the village of Cosby - although the Cosby register does say 'Edward Allen of Leicester': see above.)   St Margaret's parish register
1841   Neither he nor his wife can be found on the census. His son, Timothy (10), was living with Ann Allen (65), a seamer, possibly his grandmother, Edward's mother.
