His grandchildren remembered a photo hanging on the wall at home of a man with 'a big black beard' and 'the Angrave nose'. (This and other Angrave photos were thrown away when the family moved house in the 1950s.)   Harry Angrave;

Bill Angrave; Doreen Angrave
29 Mar 1869   At the age of 20, he married Emma Hassell (19) of Eaton Street, by banns at St George's Church, Leicester. His residence was Curzon Street, Leicester (see 1871 below). Occupation: shoe finisher. Witnesses: Edward Ratcliffe and Elizabeth Hassell.   Marriage certificate
1869-1871   Between the date of his marriage and the birth of his first known child (see 1872, below) there might be expected a child, possibly named William or Mary. 2 Apr 1871   The family were probably living in Curzon Street or Alma Cottages. These streets (ED64) have been lost from the 1871 census record (see LRFHS Journal March 2004), so unless he had moved by census night, this cannot be confirmed.   Speculative

10 Apr 1882   20 months after the death of his first wife, he married Lydia Collins (20) by banns at St Margaret's Church, Leicester. The address of both bride and groom was given as 40 Watling Street, Leicester. This may not be an indication that they were living together before the wedding - according to John Titford (2001, p 76) 'The same address might be used to save the cost of two sets of banns, which would have to be paid for if the man and the woman admitted to living in different parishes.' Witnesses at the ceremony were William Collins (the bride's brother) and Mary Ann Lorton (probably should be Mary Ann Lester - the bride's sister).   Marriage certificate
1882-1883   His daughter, Ann, was born. She was probably named after his aged grandmother - see next.   BMD Mar 1883 Leicester 7a 204
